Borrego Beginnings - Early Days in the Borrego Valley 1910-1960In the early 1900s, the tiny isolated desert community of Borrego, connected to the outside world by a few winding dirt roads, was settled by homesteaders who struggled to grow dates, grapes, and alfalfa. Attracted by the annual wildflower bloom, a few tourists began to visit. By the 1950s, Borrego Springs had developed into a small desert resort with a branch library in the laundromat, a tiny airport, and a PGA Pro Am tournament. Phil Brigandi, 2001,
